Why an EV service is different from an MOT
An MOT is a statutory safety and environmental check against a defined set of test requirements. It confirms the vehicle’s condition only at the time of the test and does not allow components to be dismantled.
An EV service is vehicle-specific and is intended to help keep the vehicle safe and reliable until its next service. Our technicians follow the applicable service schedule and look for model-related concerns that are outside the scope of an MOT.

- Charging connectors for visible dirt, corrosion or signs of heat damage
- Screenwash level, tyre pressures and tyre condition
Planning maintenance for an electric or hybrid vehicle
Use the manufacturer’s service schedule for the exact model and tell us about warning messages, charging concerns or changes in braking or tyre wear. A hybrid still has an engine as well as its electric drive system, so its maintenance requirements differ from those of a fully electric car.
Questions about EV and hybrid servicing
Does an electric car need servicing if it has no engine oil?
Yes. Tyres, brakes, fluid levels and applicable filters still need attention, along with the checks specified for the vehicle. The absence of a conventional engine does not remove the need for routine maintenance.
Does this service measure how much life is left in the main battery?
No. The service does not test the remaining longevity of the high-voltage traction battery. Contact the manufacturer or main dealer if that specific battery assessment is needed.
Which service should I choose for a hybrid?
Tell us the registration and hybrid type if you are unsure. The workshop can confirm the service appropriate to its engine and electric systems before you book.
