Air conditioning

Why Is My Car Air Conditioning Not Blowing Cold Air?

Warm air from the vents can have several causes. The useful first step is to work out whether the problem is weak airflow, poor cooling or a fault that comes and goes.

What could stop the air getting cold?

The system moves heat out of the cabin using refrigerant, a compressor and heat exchangers. Low refrigerant, a leak or a component or control fault can affect cooling. These are possibilities to investigate, rather than a diagnosis from the symptoms alone.

Very little air coming through the vents points to a different question from a strong stream of warm air. Tell the workshop if the fan speed changes normally, whether both sides of the cabin feel the same and whether the problem started suddenly.

DENSO explains how the air-conditioning components work together and why fault finding depends on the vehicle.

Will an air-conditioning regas fix it?

A refrigerant service may be the appropriate next step, but it will not repair every fault. If cooling failed again soon after a previous regas, let us know before booking so we can discuss whether a separate leak or system diagnosis is needed.

Different vehicles require different refrigerants. We offer R134a and R1234yf services; the correct type must be confirmed for your vehicle. If the online recommendation is unclear, call the workshop with your registration.

What should I tell the workshop?

  • Whether the air is warm all the time or only intermittently.
  • Whether airflow is weak, noisy or different from one vent to another.
  • When the problem began and whether the system has recently been serviced.
  • Any dashboard message or unusual smell.

A cleaning treatment and a refrigerant service do different jobs. Describe the symptoms so we can help you choose an appropriate appointment.
